What is Argala?

Argala in Sanskrit means lock, which is used to keep anything safe. But we will call it ‘PLANETARY INTERVENTION’ and ‘PLANETARY COUNTER INTERVENTION’ here to better understand and apply Argala Sutram. The Argala sutram can be applied in both Parasari and Jaimini astrology.

Who provides Argala, and how?

Argalas are provided by the planets or Jaimini Karakas when they are in certain houses from a house as listed below:

When there are planets in the 2nd house, 4th house, 5th house, and 11th house from a house. For example, Argala to the Lagna would be provided by the planets in the 2nd house, 4th house, 5th house, and 11th house from the Lagna. Similarly, Argala to the 2nd house will be provided by the planets in the 3rd house (2nd house to the 2nd house), 5th house (4th house from the 2nd house), 6th house (5th house from the 2nd house), and 12th house (11th house from the 2nd house). Argala to the remaining houses will follow suit in the above sequences provided there are planets in the Argala causing houses. The concept will be further clear when we apply the same to the horoscopes, which I invariably do because in the absence of horoscopic demonstration, the astrological study is incomplete.

What is Virodh Argala or Counter Argala? Please read them carefully and note them.

Planets posited in certain houses from a house under consideration provide Virodh Argala or Counter Argala to the Argala provided to a house depending on the degrees of the planets causing Argala and Virodh Argala. For example, Argala provided to the Lagna by the planets in the 2nd house will be obstructed by the planets posited to the 12th house from the Lagna; Argala provided by the planets in the 4th house from the Lagna will be obstruced by the planets in the 10th house from the Lagna; Argala provided by the planets in the 5th house from the Lagna will be obstructed by the planets in the 9th house from the Lagna; and Argala provided by the planets in the 11th house from the Lagna will be obstructed by the planets in the 3rd house from the Lagna depending on the degrees of the Argala cuasing planets and the Virodh Argala causing planets. In the same vein, planets causing Argala to the 2nd house from the 3rd house will be obstructed by the planets posited in the Lagna (12th house from the 2nd house); Argala caused by the planets to the 2nd house from the 5th house (4th house from the 2nd house) will be obstructed by the planets posited in the 11th house (10th house from the 2nd house); Argala caused by the planets posited in the 6th house (5th house from the 2nd house) will be obstructed by the planets placed in the 10th house (9th house from the 2nd house of wealth), and the Argala caused to the 2nd house by the planets posited in the 12th house (11th house from the 2nd house) will be obstructed by the planets posited in the 5th house (3rd house from the 2nd house).

In the same way, Argala and Virodh Argala to any house can be checked as listed below:

→ Argala caused by the planets from the 2nd house to any house will be obstructed by the planets placed in the 12th house from the house concerned.

→ Argala caused by the planets from the 4th house to any house will be obstructed by the planets placed in the 10th house from the house under consideration.

→ Argala caused by the planets from the 5th house to any house will be obstructed by the planets placed in the 9th house to the house concerned/under examination.

→ Argala caused by the planets from the 11th house to any house will be obstructed by the planets placed in the 3rd house to the house under examination.

Now, let us learn about the degrees of the Argala-causing planets and the corresponding degrees of the Virodh Argala-causing planets.

→ If the degrees of the Argala-causing planet is between 0 - 7d30m, the planets posited in the respective Virodh Argala house, if any of them happen to be between 22d30 - 30 degrees, will obstruct the Argala.

→ If the degrees of the Argala-causing planets are between 7d30m and 15 degrees, the planets posited in the respective Virodh Argala house, if any of them happen to be between 15 degrees & 22d30m, will obstruct the Argala.

→ If the degrees of the Argala-causing planets are between 15 degrees & 22d30m, the planets posited in the respective Virodh Argala house, if any of them happen to be between 7d30 & 15 degrees, will obstruct the respective Argala.

→ If the degrees of the Argala-causing planets are between 22d30m and 30 degrees, the planets posited in the respective Virodh Argala house, if any of them happen to be between 0 degrees and 7d30m, will obstruct the respective Argala.

→Three or more natural malefic planets (Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu & the Sun) if posited to the Third-House to a House cause extremely favourable non-obstructive VIPREET ARGALA to the respective house. For example, Saturn, Mars, and Rahu are posited in the 12th house, which is the 3rd house to the 10th house of profession, shall cause extremely favourable non-obstructive VIPREET ARGALA to the 10th house of PROFESSION, taking the native to dizzying heights in his professional career even if he joins to the lowest rung in his organisational hierarachy, rest assured he will be retiring as the head of the organisation provided the Lagna and the 10th house have the required steams.

How do we differentiate the strength of the Argala?

→ NORMAL ARGALA can be caused by any planets by positing in the respective house to a house without any Virodh Argala.

→ STRONG ARGALA is caused by the house lord by positioning it to any of the 2nd/4th/5th/11th house to a house without any Virodh Argala.

→STRONGEST AND FAVOURABLE ARGALA is caused by the house lord by positioning it to any Argala-causing house to a HOUSE without any Virodh Argala and aspecting the House through Jaimini aspect or Parasari aspect. For example, in the case of Libra ascendant, if the 10th lord Moon is in Taurus identical to its house of exaltation, it shall make the 10th house Cancer extremely strong and result-oriented by causing Argala from the 11th house to the 10th house and by aspecting the 10th house Cancer through Jaimini aspect provided it is not encountered by the planets in the 12th house (3rd house to the 10th house).

Now, let us apply the Argala Sutram to the Horoscopes.

NATAL HOROSCOPE OF SMT. INDIRA GANDHI

In the Natal Horoscope of Smt. Indira Gandhi, the 10th house of professional status is Aries. Jupiter is in the 2nd house to the 10th house, Saturn is in the 4th house to the 10th house, and Mars, the 10th lord in the 5th house to the 10th house, and they have been causing Argala to the 10th house. There is no planet in Aquarius, the 11th house to the 10th house of Aries.

→Jupiter, the 9th lord of luck from the 10th house Aries has been causing unobstructed Argala to the 10th house Aries as there is no planet in Pisces, the 12th house from the 10th house Aries. **

→ Saturn, the 10th & 11th lord (Upachaya lord signifying professional growth) from the 10th house Aries is in the 4th house Cancer from the 10th house Aries with 21 degrees 47 minutes has been providing unobstructed Argala to the 10th house Aries as the Moon, which is, though, in the Virodh Argala House in the 10th house Capricorn but is of 5 degrees 35 minutes can not provide Virodh Argala. (Since Saturn is of 21d47m, the Virodh Argala degrees of the planets should be between 7d30 and 15 degrees as already discussed above, and the Moon, though is in the Virodh Argala 10th house Capricorn from the 10th Aries but is of 5d35m and thus, below the degree specification of 7d30m & 15 degrees). **

→Mars, the 10th lord/10th-house-lord though in the 5th house to the 10th house Aries is of 16 degrees 22 minutes with Venus is of 21 degrees and Rahu is of 9 degrees 12 minutes are in the Virodh Argala 9th house from the 10th house Aries. Since the degrees of the 10th lord, Mars, is of 16d22m, any planet posited in the 9th house Sagittarius from the 10th house Aries, if it happens to be between 7d30m & 15 degrees, can obstruct the Argala of Mars. Rahu is of 9d12m and in the Virodh Argala House within the degree specification of 7d30m & 15d and have obustrcted the Argala to the 10th house Aries by the 10th lord Mars.

** Smt. Indira Gandhi became the Prime Minister of India on 24–1–1966 during her Vimshottari Jupiter Mahadasha. She also became the Prime Minister on 14–1–1980 during her Vimshottari Saturn Mahadasha. Please mark that both Jupiter and Saturn have been providing UNOBSTRUCTED ARGALA to the 10th house Aries and made her the Prime Minister. Vimshottari Mars Mahadasha could not confer her name and fame since its Argala was obstructed by Rahu.

NATAL HOROSCOPE OF SHRI NARENDRA MODI

In the horoscope of Shri Modi, the Lagna Lord Venus, the Yoga Karaka Saturn, the 10th lord Moon, and the 7th lord Mars are in the Argala- causing the 2nd and the 5th house respectively from the 10th house Cancer.

→ As there is no planet in the 12th house Gemini from the 10th house Cancer, Venus and Saturn have been providing UNOBSTRUCTED ARGALA to the 10th house Cancer. **

→ The 10th lord Moon and the 7th lord Mars are in the Argala-causing 5th house Scorpio to the 10th house Cancer. Rahu is in the Virodh- Argala-causing 9th house to the 10th house Cancer with 5 degrees 12 minutes can provide Virodh-Argala if there is any planet between 22d30m & 30 degrees in the 5th house Scorpio. The 10th lord, Moon, is of 8d18m, and the 7th lord, Mars, is of 0d54m, and none of them come under the Virodh Argala degree span of Rahu.

As such, the 10th lord Moon and the 7th lord Mars have been providing UNOBSTRUCTED ARGALA AND ALSO HAVE BEEN ASPECTING THE 10TH HOUSE CANCER THROUGH JAIMINI ASPECT.

He got re-elected to the post of CM of Gujarat for the 4th term on 20–12–2012 during his Moon-Moon, Prime Minister for the first time on 26–5–2014 during his Moon Mahadasha, and again re-elected with a thumping and unprecedented majority in 2019 General elections and became the PM for the consecutive 2nd term on 23–5–2019 during his Vimshottari Moon Mahadasha. THE MOON AS THE 10TH LORD HAS BEEN PROVIDING SUPERSTRONG ARGALA AND JAIMINI DRISHTI TO THE 10TH HOUSE CANCER AND DURING ITS VIMSHOTTARI MAHADASHA (2012 - 2022) BROUGHT HIM TO THE NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL SPOTLIGHT WITH NAME AND FAME. He is currently running Vimshottari Mars Mahadasha (2022 - 2029), which has also been providing Argala and Jaimini Drishti to the 10th house Cancer but not as the 10th lord like the previous MDL Moon and because of which there is the difference in the result.
