Laghu Parashari says that Rahu is a shadowy planet. It broadly delivers the following results:

1. Result of the houses occupied by it in a horoscope.
2. Result of the associated planet(s) in the horoscope.
3. Result of its house lord or dispositor in the horoscope

RAHU delivers outstanding results if - 

1. If it is in a Kendra (Quadrant) with a Trikone lord.
2. If it is in a Trikone (Trine) with a Kendra Lord.
3. If it is with a Kendra Lord and a Trikone Lord.
4. If the sign dispositor of Rahu is in Raj Yoga or Dhan Yoga.

You can imagine Rahu like blotting paper or as an absorber. If it is under favourable circumstances, “outstanding” results, and under unfavourable circumstances “worst” results.

In the horoscope of Smt. Indira Gandhi, Rahu is in the adverse 6^th house. So, it should have given her the adverse result. But it did not give her adverse results; it gave her marriage and the birth of two sons during Rahu Mahadasha.

In the birth chart, Rahu is with Venus, the natural Vivaha Karaka and absorbed the quality of Venus and gave her marriage. It is in Sagittarius, the Mooltrikone sign of Jupiter, the natural Putrakaraka, and it endowed her with the birth of two sons during Rahu Mahadasha.

NAVAMSHA CHART OF SMT. INDIRA GANDHI

In the D9 chart of Smt. Gandhi, Rahu is in Gemini and in the sign of Mercury. It will deliver the results towards the fulfilment of the promise of Mercury in the D9 chart. Mercury is the 7^th lord of marriage with Vivaha Karaka Venus. Rahu, during its Mahadasha, gave her marriage.

SAPTAMSHA CHART OF SMT. INDIRA GANDHI

In D7, Rahu is in the evil 8^th house, and its sign lord, Saturn, is in the adverse 12^th house. Prima facie, in such an adverse position, Rahu should have denied her progeny during its Mahadasha. But it endowed her with two sons – Rajiv & Sanjay. Rahu is with the Putrakaraka Jupiter, absorbed its Karkatva, and blessed her with two sons. Rahu is aspected by the Moon, the Lagna Lord and Mars, the 5^th lord; both are the Karaka Bhava lords for the childbirth of D7.  

Had it been any other planet in the 8^th house of D7, other than Rahu, the same would have certainly denied the birth of healthy children to Smt. Indira Gandhi during its Mahadasha. Since Rahu is a Chaya Graha and a quality absorber, it absorbed the positive quality of Jupiter as Putrakaraka and blessed her with two sons.
